Job summary

STO Building Group Careers seeks an Electrical Estimator to perform MEP estimating, budgeting, and bidding for assigned projects. The role requires reviewing plans, taking-off quantities, soliciting subcontractor bids, and ensuring complete, compliant estimates in coordination with clients and internal teams.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s in a related field and 2–3 years of MEP estimating experience, with strong analytical and negotiation skills and proficiency in Take Off, Bluebeam,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field, plus 2–3 years of MEP estimating experience.
• Well-developed estimating, communication, financial analysis, budgeting, purchasing, negotiation, and computer skills are required.
• Possesses knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems to complete cost estimates without assistance.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and architectural drawings; prepare quantity take-offs for assigned projects.
• For negotiated work, ensure complete review of plans and drawings; identify omitted items and ensure proper accounting in the estimate package.
• Solicit subcontractor bids for MEP projects.
• Review bids for conformance to specifications, price, material quality, insurance, wages; discuss questions with subcontractors before submission.
• Maintain current information on construction codes to ensure complete bids from subcontractors and material suppliers.
• Develop scope-specific inclusion worksheets and track completion by bidding subcontractors.
• Utilize software to calculate, record, and track estimates; maintain proficiency in tools.
• Compute cost factors and prepare estimates for management planning, scheduling, and vendor selection.
• Consult with clients, vendors, or others to discuss and finalize estimates; resolve issues.
• Organize and manage centralized cost estimating database and formal process; use historical data.
• Analyze completed projects to compare estimated vs actual costs and explain discrepancies.
• Provide improvement recommendations to procedures to reduce discrepancies.
• Identify cost trends to aid management in cost reduction and process improvement.
• Demonstrate analytical, communication, negotiation, and Excel proficiency.
