Job summary

STO Building Group Careers is seeking an Electrical Estimator to perform MEP estimating, budgeting, and bidding for commercial projects in Texas. You will interact with architects, clients, and operations to ensure project objectives and schedules are understood.

The role requires reviewing plans, soliciting subcontractor bids, analyzing bids, and maintaining cost data. Proficiency with Excel, Take Off, Bluebeam, Destiny, Building Connected and MS Project is expected.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and architectural drawings; prepare quantity take-offs for assigned projects.
• For negotiated work, ensure a complete review of plans and drawings; identify omitted items and account for them in the estimate package.
• Solicit subcontractor bids for MEP projects.
• Review and analyze bids for conformance to specs, price, material quality, insurance, wages; discuss questions with subcontractors before final submission.
• Maintain current information on trends in construction codes to ensure complete bids.
• Develop scope-specific inclusion worksheets and track completion by bidding subcontractors.
• Use software to calculate, record, and track estimates; maintain skills with software for optimal performance.
• Compute cost factors and prepare estimates for planning, organizing, scheduling, bids, and vendor selection.
• Consult with clients, vendors, or others to discuss and resolve estimates.
• Interface with organization to obtain support for cost estimates.
• Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and formal process to utilize historical data.
• Analyze completed projects to compare estimated vs actual costs and explain discrepancies.
• Provide improvement recommendations to procedures to reduce future discrepancies.
• Identify cost trends to aid management in cost reduction and process improvements.
• Analytical skills; communicate clearly; decision making; estimating; financial analysis; interpersonal and negotiation skills; PC skills; self-starter; time management.
