Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an Estimator to support preliminary budgets, conceptual and detailed estimates for smaller, less complex projects in Texas. You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, price unit costs, and help prepare bid documents.

Ideal candidates have a construction management or engineering background, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with cost data and software like Accubid.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or trade school or equivalent experience.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• Basic ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Basic ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• General knowledge of construction costs and principles
• Basic ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations

Responsibilities

• Assist with preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detail estimates for smaller, less complex projects.
• Perform material take-offs and provide unit cost pricing using applicable software.
• Develop project updates and bid package estimate documents’ comparison.
• Track and adjust quantities; resolve discrepancies as needed.
• Research and compile historical cost data; keep database current for future estimates.
• Maintain file of working project documents to back up estimating figures.
• Respond to basic questions from internal managers.
