Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates, and detailed estimates for small to medium-size projects. You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, and price units while mentoring junior estimators.

Responsibilities include coordinating with vendors, reviewing RFPs, and presenting findings to internal teams. Strong Excel/Word skills and cost knowledge are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or trade school or equivalent.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in mechanical construction estimating.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings.
• Strong knowledge of construction costs and principles.
• Strong ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply fractions, percentages and ratios.
• Solid drafting skills; proficient in Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes drawings and uses software to perform material take-offs for estimates.
• Prepares unit cost pricing and detailed estimates for small to medium projects.
• Solicits subcontractor bids and builds vendor relationships for quotes.
• Reviews RFPs and Basis of Design to determine scope and contents of estimates.
• Presents information to internal departments and mentors Estimators.
