Job summary

Neal Electric Corp. in Carlsbad, CA, is seeking an Estimator to provide direct estimating support to the operations department, ensuring proposals align with company and client expectations.

The ideal candidate will perform bid take-offs, analyze bid documents, review pricing, and prepare competitive estimates. Strong data entry, communication, and organizational skills are required to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid California Class C driver's license.
  • Proficient in Accubid, LiveCount, MS Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam.
  • Bluebeam experience is a plus.
  • Accurate data entry and ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Able to adjust priorities on short notice and work under pressure.
  • Meet deadlines and coordinate workloads with supervision.
  • Effective communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Construction industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in updating weekly Estimating Department reporting and tracking.
  • Analyze bid documents and perform quantity take-offs of electrical and low voltage systems drawings.
  • Review material pricing for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda and front-end documents.
  • Perform constructability reviews and value engineering exercises.
  • Identify upcoming projects for bidding opportunities.
  • Prepare bid forms and update proposal scope letters with project specifics and details.
  • Deliver bids and prequalification packages.
  • Identify sensitive project requirements, threats and opportunities for accurate bidding.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by direct supervisor.
  • Prepare, package and submit competitive estimates within a reasonable time.
  • Schedule and attend job turnover meetings and prepare turnover documents.
  • Request quotes and interact with subs and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, colleagues, supervisors, administrative personnel, vendors, and subcontractors.
