Electrical Estimator 1

Neal Electric, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for an Estimator based out of our Carlsbad, CA location. The ideal candidate will provide direct estimating support to the operations department to ensure project proposals align with company and client expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Assist in the updating of weekly Estimating Department reporting and tracking.
  • Analyze and interpret bid documents, performs quantity take-offs of electrical and low voltage systems drawings.
  • Review material pricing for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda and front end documents.
  • Perform constructability reviews and value engineering exercises.
  • Identify upcoming projects for bidding opportunities.
  • Prepare bid forms and update proposal scope letter with project specifics and details.
  • Deliver bids and prequalification packages.
  • Identify sensitive project requirements, threats and opportunities for accurate bidding.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by direct Supervisor.
  • Prepare, package and submit competitive estimates within a reasonable time.
  • Schedule and attend job turnover meetings and assure preparation of job turnover documents.
  • Request quotes and professional interaction with subs and suppliers.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, colleagues, supervisors, administrative personnel, vendors, and subcontractors based on mutual respect and integrity.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, mathematics or engineering is preferred.
  • General knowledge of the various disciplines and procedures utilized by the Construction industry is preferred with at least 3 years’ experience in commercial electrical estimating.
LICENSE

Possess a valid class C California driver's license.

SKILLS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Proficient in Accubid, LiveCount, MS Office Suite including intermediate knowledge of Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to accurately enter data and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Able to adjust priorities on short notice, manage interruptions and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and coordinate workloads with Supervisor.
  • Effective communication, grammar, letter writing, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Construction industry experience a plus.
  • Interact professionally with all company employees and outside persons, such as customers, vendors and professional service providers.
  • Ability to stay focused and work without close supervision.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination are necessary.
  • Mental alertness and good memory is necessary to ensure accurate and thorough completion of work activities.
  • Ability to interpret and disseminate complex information appropriately and effectively.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods and efficiently operate computer, calculator, copier, and other business office equipment.

Working conditions consist of temperature-controlled buildings or offices, outside elements such as rain, cold, and heat when working in open environments, driving from various locations or attending meetings, etc. Noise levels are moderate to loud depending on work location.
