Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead the electrical engineering function for utility-scale PV, BESS, and substation projects across its renewables portfolio. You will guide day-to-day technical delivery, shape standards, and ensure constructible, compliant designs while mentoring the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
• Experience in utility-scale PV, BESS, and/or HV/substation work.
• Experience leading engineers or small teams in a design-build/EPC environment.
• Experience producing/conducting construction-quality electrical design packages (one-lines, schematics, grounding, cable schedules).
• Knowledge of MV/HV collection, protection and control, grounding/lightning, and PV/BESS layouts.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and coach the electrical engineering team across HV/substation, P&C, and NERC scopes.
• Coordinate staffing and technical execution from early design through COD.
• Act as technical lead for assigned electrical scopes and major design reviews.
• Develop and apply electrical design standards and QA/QC checklists.
• Oversee power system studies and NERC/IBR analyses and apply results to design decisions.
• Identify electrical risks and support mitigation planning in budgets and quality plans.
• Coordinate with Preconstruction, Design Management, and Operations to ensure clear interfaces and handoffs.
• Represent McCarthy as a technical contact with Owners, utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and vendors.
