Job description

MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR TOP SECURITY CLEARANCE!

We are seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead and grow a high-performing electrical engineering team in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. This is a player-coach role: you will maintain hands-on technical responsibility while providing leadership, mentorship, and direction to the team. You’ll contribute directly to schematic design, PCB layout, and hardware development while setting priorities, removing obstacles, and maintaining high engineering standards.

You will work within a matrixed organization, partnering closely with mechanical, firmware, systems, and manufacturing teams to develop and deliver reliable hardware that performs in demanding field environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of electrical engineers while managing workload, priorities, technical development, and career growth.
  • Contribute hands-on to schematic capture and PCB layout, and review and approve designs across the team to ensure quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Drive electrical engineering development across power electronics, motor drives, embedded computing, and networking subsystems.
  • Partner with mechanical, firmware, and systems engineering to ensure electrical designs integrate effectively across subsystems and meet program requirements.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to communicate engineering designs and intent, support production, and identify and resolve hardware issues.
  • Establish and maintain engineering processes, design standards, and best practices that improve team effectiveness and product quality.
  • Provide technical leadership during design reviews, troubleshooting, testing, and hardware development.

What You’ll Need

  • 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, including direct management or leadership of electrical engineers in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB layout, with the ability and willingness to remain technically active alongside management responsibilities.
  • Strong technical depth across power electronics, motor drivers, embedded computing, and networking, with the ability to make and defend design decisions in these areas.
  • Experience leading engineering within a matrixed organization, with strong communication and coordination skills across mechanical, firmware, systems, and manufacturing teams.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior electrical engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and career development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to balance technical priorities, schedules, and team resources.

You’ll Stand Out

  • Background in defense, robotics, autonomous systems, or other high-reliability embedded hardware environments.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent EDA tools for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience taking hardware from initial concept and prototype through qualification, production, and field deployment.
  • Familiarity with MIL-SPEC or other environmental qualification standards applicable to defense or field-deployed hardware.
  • Experience working on complex electromechanical systems involving motors, power electronics, embedded computing, and networked devices.
