Job summary

RTX seeks a mechanical/aerospace engineering student for hands‑on work in aerospace and defense product development. You will assist with planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical/electromechanical systems under supervision.

You will model components and run analyses, supporting tests and documentation. You will collaborate with engineers to interpret results, learn design standards, and contribute to multi‑disciplinary projects while gaining practical experience in a dynamic

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related STEM field.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software such as Solidworks or equivalent.
  • Experience with FEM/analysis tools like ANSYS or similar is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, design, development and testing of mechanical/electromechanical systems under supervision.
  • Collaborate with engineers to model components, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • Conduct tests for systems and components under oversight and analyze results against specs.
  • Communicate findings effectively within cross‑functional teams.
  • Document development, analysis and test data and support design reviews.

What You Will Do:
  • With technical supervision, apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Work with engineers and designers to produce models for components, parts, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • With technical oversight, execute tests for systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives.
  • Communicate effectively in a cross-functional team.

  • How to follow appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs.
  • Documentation of development, analysis, and test data.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Must be pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience with Solidworks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with ANSYS or other mechanical analysis software.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship session.

This role is classified as: Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
