Job summary

RTX — Collins Aerospace Strategic Defense Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to assist in the design, development, and testing of mechanical/electromechanical systems for military aircraft and transportable platforms. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle.

The role emphasizes CAD/FEA tool use, modeling of components, and hands-on testing with supervision.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related STEM field and actively enrolled through internship/co-op.
  • Experience with CAD/FEA tools is preferred.
  • Active U.S. government Top Secret clearance is preferred or required after onboarding.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design, development, and testing of mechanical/electromechanical systems for military aircraft.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Systems, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering teams.
  • Develop models for components and assemblies under supervision.
  • Execute tests for systems and analyze results against specifications.
  • Communicate results effectively within cross-functional teams.

What You Will Do

As a Mechanical Engineer Intern at Collins Aerospace Strategic Defense Solutions, you will participate in the design, development, and test of electronic equipment and integration kits for communication systems on military aircraft and transportable platforms. You will learn to work closely with fellow Mechanical Engineers as well as Systems, Electrical, and Manufacturing Engineering staff to ensure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product’s lifecycle.

  • With technical supervision, apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Work with engineers and designers to produce models for components, parts, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • With technical oversight, execute tests for systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives.
  • Communicate effectively in a cross-functional team.

  • Collaboration in a multi-disciplinary team to create successful designs.
  • How to follow appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs.
  • Documentation of development, analysis, and test data.
  • Processes associated with the various phases of the product development cycle.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software (Creo, NX, and/or Catia).
  • Experience with ANSYS or ABAQUS
  • A minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Possession of an active U.S. Government issued Top Secret clearance
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Word)

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
