Job summary

Xcel Energy in Texas is offering a Southwestern Public Service Area Engineering Intern position designed for electrical engineering students. You will work with experienced engineers to support reliability, safety and operation of the electric distribution system in SPS service territory, gaining hands-on experience with power system analyses and capital projects.

The internship runs with a May 24, 2027 start date, offers hybrid in-person work, and may extend beyond the initial term based on

Qualifications

Current student, Sophomore or higher
Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy

Responsibilities

Support electric distribution reliability and outage investigations, including CEMI/DEMI analysis
Assist with protection and coordination studies for distribution feeders and equipment
Support capital project development and distribution system improvement initiatives
Participate in field visits to substations, distribution facilities, and construction projects
Utilize utility engineering software and databases to evaluate system performance and operating conditions
Collaborate with engineers and technical staff to solve real-world electric utility challenges
