Job summary

Kimley-Horn in Houston, TX is seeking electrical engineering students to join our Power Delivery team. This is an in-office internship focused on pre-design and design engineering activities across ports, harbors electrification, EV charging, and building electrical systems.

You will assist with site investigations, drawings, energy calculations, single-line diagrams, and coordination with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• In the process of receiving an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering Degree (Bachelors or Masters)

Responsibilities

• Pre-Design Engineering: Coordination and verification of as-built drawings
• Perform field investigations
• Set up drawings and models for multiple disciplines
• Collaborate with team members regarding design coordination, schedules, and deliverables
• Perform feasibility studies
• Prepare schematic designs
• Design Engineering: Design of electrical systems including Ports & Harbors electrification, electric vehicle charging, and building electrical
• Responsible for the development of reports and design documents, including electrical design plans, equipment selection, solar system sizing, and power analyses
• Participate on project teams in an active production role
• Daily interaction and collaboration on cross-functional teams across multiple disciplines
• Perform energy calculations using EnergyPro or IES VE
• Develop single-line diagrams and load schedules
• Design lighting selection and controls
• Design normal, emergency, and renewable power systems
• Perform Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination Power System Studies using ETAP and/or SKM
