Job summary

Confidential Employer is seeking an experienced electrical engineer for a hybrid role in San Diego. You will design electrical systems for both residential and commercial projects from concept through construction, including power and lighting, and perform key engineering calculations.

The position requires 3+ years in electrical design within MEP/building systems, with strong knowledge of California codes.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of electrical engineering or electrical design experience within MEP consulting, building systems, or related environment.
  • Experience designing electrical power and lighting systems for buildings.
  • Working knowledge of California Electrical Code, Building Code, Energy Code & Title 24.
  • Ability to read and develop construction documents.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for residential and commercial projects from concept through construction.
  • Develop electrical power systems including switchgear, panels, transformers, feeders, and grounding.
  • Design lighting systems with photometrics, fixtures, controls, and Title 24 compliance.
  • Perform calculations: voltage drop, fault current, coordination, arc flash.
  • Prepare design documentation, specs, drawings, and construction documents.
  • Participate in client meetings and collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, contractors.
  • Conduct site walks to evaluate conditions and monitor construction progress.
  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and provide construction administration support.
  • Apply CA standards to project designs.
  • Provide technical direction to electrical designers.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Location: Hybrid in San Diego, California. Our team works in the office Tuesday and Thursday, with remote work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Employees also enjoy flexible start times between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

Note: Candidates must have 3+ years of directly relevant electrical engineering or electrical design experience in MEP or building systems and hands on experience designing both electrical power and lighting systems.

Job Description
  • Design electrical systems for residential and commercial building projects from conceptual design through construction
  • Develop electrical power systems including switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, feeders, branch circuits, grounding, and panel schedules
  • Design lighting systems including photometrics, fixture specifications, lighting controls, and Title 24 requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, fault current, coordination, and arc flash analysis
  • Prepare basis of design documentation, specifications, drawings, and other construction documents
  • Participate in client meetings and collaborate closely with architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and project stakeholders
  • Conduct job site walks to evaluate existing conditions and monitor construction progress
  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and provide construction administration support
  • Apply California electrical, building, energy, accessibility, utility, and life safety standards to project designs
  • Provide technical direction and supervision to electrical designers
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of electrical engineering or electrical design experience within MEP consulting, building systems, or a closely related environment
  • Demonstrated experience designing both electrical power and lighting systems for buildings
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of California Electrical Code, California Building Code, California Energy Code, Title 24, and applicable utility standards
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit
  • Experience with Design Master, EnergyPro, or SKM PowerTools is preferred
  • Strong ability to read and develop construction documents
  • Strong communication, organization, and client facing skills
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to visit project sites as needed
