Job summary

Orionplacement seeks a mechanical engineer to design HVAC and mechanical systems for residential and commercial projects in a hybrid San Diego setting. You will take a hands-on role from concept through construction, delivering coordinated drawings and specifications.

Qualifications include 2+ years in mechanical engineering or design, and familiarity with California codes such as Title 24. AutoCAD and Revit skills are preferred, with strong communication and teamwork abilities a must.

  • Experience with construction documents and coordinating across multiple disciplines.
  • Familiarity with California mechanical and energy codes, including Title 24.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC and mechanical systems for residential and commercial building projects.
  • Support projects from conceptual design and system selection through construction documentation and construction administration.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, and mechanical system design.
  • Develop ductwork, ventilation, piping, and related mechanical system layouts.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations, and supporting design documentation.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, plumbing, architectural, structural, and other project disciplines.
  • Participate in client meetings and communicate technical recommendations clearly.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and assist with construction phase engineering support.
  • Apply applicable California building, mechanical, energy, and sustainability requirements to project designs.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and designers to deliver accurate, cost effective, constructible solutions.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Location: Hybrid in San Diego, California. Our team works in the office Tuesday and Thursday, with remote work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Employees also enjoy flexible start times between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

Note: Candidates must have 2+ years of directly relevant mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience and hands on experience with HVAC and mechanical systems for building projects.

  • AutoCAD and Revit experience preferred
  • Strong technical, communication, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to attend client meetings and visit project sites as needed
