Critical Facility Group, a remote-first MEP consulting firm focused on data centers, seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer to lead our electrical engineering team and own the electrical outcomes on complex projects.
You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, review designs, and coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams across CFG's data-center initiatives.
About Critical Facility Group
Critical Facility Group (CFG) is an MEP consulting and owner's project management firm specializing in data centers and mission-critical facilities. Our engineers and project managers design, build, and protect the infrastructure that keeps the world's most important systems running, from substations and power systems to mechanical, electrical, and telecommunications design.
We're a remote-first team of experienced professionals who value technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration. Most CFG roles are fully remote; our owner's project management team works on-site at client locations. At CFG, you'll work on complex, high-impact projects alongside people who care about doing the work right.
Remote (US)
Build the infrastructure that keeps the world running.
Critical Facility Group (CFG) designs and delivers the data centers and mission-critical facilities that support essential digital services, businesses, and communities. We're looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to lead our electrical engineering team and own the electrical outcome on complex, high-consequence projects.
You'll lead CFG's electrical engineering group, reporting to our Engineering Manager. You'll set the technical direction, lead and develop the engineers and designers on your team, and serve as a trusted technical partner to clients and project stakeholders.
You'll stay technically engaged and contribute directly when needed, but your biggest impact will come from sound engineering decisions, developing people, and raising the quality of the whole team.
Lead electrical design for data centers and critical facilities from concept through construction.
Establish design criteria, system architecture, distribution concepts, and equipment selections.
Develop critical power topologies, including utility services, medium- and low-voltage distribution, generators, UPS systems, transfer and paralleling systems, and redundant architectures.
Review load calculations, fault‑current evaluations, and short‑circuit, coordination, and arc‑flash studies.
Identify technical risks early and guide the team toward practical, constructible solutions.
Seal drawings when in responsible charge.
Manage, mentor, and develop electrical engineers and designers at different career stages.
Assign and prioritize work across projects based on project needs and individual development goals.
Review calculations, drawings, specifications, and studies for accuracy and constructability.
Set expectations for design quality and accountability, and provide regular performance feedback.
Participate in hiring and help build a stronger electrical team as CFG grows.
Standardize CFG's electrical design practices, details, specifications, and quality‑control processes.
Serve as the electrical technical lead and coordinate with all other disciplines.
Communicate issues, alternatives, and recommendations clearly to clients and stakeholders.
Support project managers with scope, staffing, schedules, and budgets.
Review submittals, RFIs, substitutions, and change orders, and conduct site observations.
Support commissioning, punch lists, and project turnover.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Typically 8+ years of electrical design experience, including leading design on data centers or other critical facilities.
Demonstrated experience leading electrical engineering teams, including assigning work, developing engineers, and providing performance feedback.
Deep knowledge of critical power systems, medium‑and low‑voltage distribution, protection, and grounding.
Proficiency in Revit and working knowledge of SKM or ETAP study review.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Strong communication skills with clients, contractors, and project teams.
This role can grow into broader technical leadership, practice development, and client leadership as CFG grows. You'll help shape our electrical standards, mentor the next generation of engineers, and define the culture of a growing specialist firm.
