Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced Engineer II/III to serve as the site subject matter expert for electrical/controls systems. You will monitor performance, coordinate with Design Engineering, Transmission, Maintenance & Operations, and other departments on system concerns, schedules, and budgets, and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Requires a B.S.E. from an ABET-accredited program (M.S. may be considered).
  • Engineer II: minimum 2 years related experience; Engineer III: minimum 4 years.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of project management principles.

Job description

  • Serve as the site subject matter expert for assigned electrical/controls systems
  • Monitor and trend system/component performance
  • Interface with external vendors to resolve technical issues
  • Direct onsite testing and troubleshooting for emergent issues
  • Coordinate with Design Engineering, Transmission, Maintenance & Operations, and other departments on system concerns, schedules, budgets, and related issues
  • Ensure regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate fleet operating experience and industry learnings to improve equipment reliability
  • Evaluate preventative maintenance program performance and recommend performance-based adjustments
  • Maintain station- and turbine-specific DCS, SCADA, and PLC process control system configurations
  • Develop scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for engineering design changes involving AC/DC power systems, motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, voltage regulators, breakers, and related equipment
  • Manage external control system vendor support as the single point of contact
  • Assist Operations & Maintenance with electrical/control system challenges and needs
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity specialists on patching schedules and database management
  • Manage control/electrical system vendor contracts, including on-call support, maintenance, and parts agreements
  • Maintain the plant risk grid for system/equipment responsibilities
  • Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, make recommendations, and prepare and present recommendations
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • A Master's degree in Engineering may be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree
  • Engineer II: Minimum 2 years related work experience
  • Engineer III: Minimum 4 years of related experience
  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles
  • Understanding of engineering and design issue research, alternative evaluation, recommendation development, and presentation
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam (desired)
  • Understanding of basic principles of project management
  • Experience in the utility industry (desired)
  • Department-specific experience applicable to the hiring department (desired)
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Must possess all basic/required qualifications
