Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Distributed Controls System/Electrical System owner for Dan River CC and Rockingham CT.
• Provide engineering guidance in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems.
• Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor engineering work activities.
• Prepare technical reports, correspondence, calculations, and sketches.
• Coordinate complex projects with full technical responsibility.
• Analyze business processes and recommend enhancements and standards.
• Maintain knowledge of new developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment.
• Coordinate work activities and maintain accurate records and files.
• Coach and mentor engineering professionals.
• Resolve emergent technical requests.
• Maintain the plant Risk Grid for assigned systems and equipment.
• Provide technical support for Capital and O&M projects.
• Oversee Outage and Projects Support and COSO projects to meet scope and objectives.
• Develop scope, installation, and testing requirements for electrical design changes.
• Manage vendor contracts for control/electrical systems.
• Represent the company positively and professionally.

Job description

• Provide engineering and technical expertise and guidance in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems
• Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor engineering work activities
• Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
• Conduct engineering studies and coordinate complex projects with full technical responsibility
• Analyze business processes and recommend enhancements and standards
• Maintain knowledge of new developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment
• Coordinate work activities and maintain accurate records and files
• Coach and mentor engineering and non-degreed engineering professionals
• Resolve emergent technical requests
• Maintain the plant Risk Grid for assigned systems and equipment
• Provide technical support for station-managed Capital and O&M projects
• Oversee Outage and Projects Support and COSO projects to ensure scope, design, and stakeholder objectives are met
• Develop scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for electrical design changes
• Manage control/electrical system vendor contracts, including on-call support, maintenance, and parts agreements
• Represent the company positively and professionally

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
• 8 years related work experience
• Must have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE
• Professional Engineer registration is required
• A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
• Skilled in engineering theories and principles
• Skilled in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Skilled in principles of project management
• Experience in the utility industry
• Department-specific experience applicable to the hiring department
• Ability to apply basic principles of project management
• Experience with controls systems (Ovation, Mark VIE, T3000)
• Combustion Turbine and Combined Cycle experience
• Ability to work with individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
• Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
• 5–15% travel
