Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. in Dallas, TX is seeking an Engineer I to apply standard design techniques on small projects under senior guidance. You will develop concepts, prepare drawings, and coordinate with the architect and other disciplines to meet project requirements.

The role involves assisting with budgets, performing load calculations, and reviewing submittals, while gaining responsibility toward professional licensure and leadership. A PE and ABET-accredited degree are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college with four years applicable experience in discipline design and analysis
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)

Responsibilities

  • Apply standard design engineering techniques on small projects or segments under supervision
  • Develop design approaches and concepts with input from the EOR; perform engineering studies using industry software
  • Oversee preparation of drawings and documentation; review work for accuracy and adherence to standards
  • Coordinate design space requirements with architect and other disciplines; communicate requirements clearly
  • Attend meetings with owners/clients/architects; document decisions and action items
  • Coordinate with authorities and utilities to incorporate construction codes and government requirements
  • Assist with discipline manhour budgets; plan work and report progress to the project manager
  • Perform studies, load calculations, and equipment selection; review for technical accuracy before QA/QC
  • Respond to contractor questions during bid and construction; review shop drawings and submittals
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress and observe installation; comment based on design specs and codes
  • Maintain records of communications; contribute to lessons learned
  • Support training and mentoring of designers and EITs; stay updated on codes, software, and industry trends
