Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) is seeking an Electrical Engineer I in our XX office in Charlottesville, VA.

You will be mentored by experienced engineers and gradually lead electrical project teams, performing load calculations, sizing, and equipment selection while reviewing drawings and coordinating with clients and other consultants. The role emphasizes professional growth, collaboration, and delivering energy-efficient building solutions for healthcare, science, and technology facilities.

Qualifications

• BSEE/BSAE from ABET-accredited school.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.
• EIT certification (Passed the FE exam) a plus.
• Internship experience in the MEP consulting engineering field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform load calculations, determine system sizing and layouts, calculate equipment sizes.
• Select equipment and complete field surveys; review equipment shop drawings.
• Lead electrical project teams as you gain experience; write specifications and participate in client meetings.

In this role, you will initially work with and be mentored by experienced engineers and will yourself help to mentor designers. Your initial assignments will include performing load calculations, determining system sizing and layouts, calculating equipment sizes, selecting equipment, completing field surveys, and reviewing equipment shop drawings. As you gain project experience, you will take on a greater role in leading electrical project teams, writing specifications, participating in project meetings with clients and other consultants, and supporting construction‑phase work.

Expertise of our most successful Electrical Engineer I:

• BSEE/BSAE from ABET accredited school.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Non‑academic internship.
• Leadership involvement in extracurricular activities/student organizations preferred.
• EIT certification (Passed the FE exam) a plus.
