Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) in San Diego invites energetic Electrical Engineer I students for Summer 2027 to contribute to energy-efficient building solutions and in-building systems.

You’ll gain hands-on experience under mentors, participate in load calculations, equipment sizing, and field surveys, and progressively lead design tasks on small projects. AEI offers growth, mentorship, and a culture that values collaboration, innovation, and delivering high-impact outcomes.

Qualifications

• BSEE/BSAE from ABET accredited school in Electrical or Architectural Engineering.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Non-academic internship.
• Leadership involvement in extracurricular activities/student organizations preferred.
• EIT certification (Passed the FE exam) a plus.
• Internship experience in the MEP consulting engineering field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform load calculations, determine system sizing and layouts.
• Calculate equipment sizes and select equipment.
• Complete field surveys and review equipment shop drawings.
• Lead electrical project teams as you gain experience.
• Write specifications and participate in project meetings with clients and other consultants.
• Support construction-phase work as projects progress.

As an Electrical Engineer I in our San Diego office for Summer 2027, you will help us empower our clients to achieve energy-efficient building solutions, save global environments, and create a better, greener future for all.

Here’s Why We Need You

In this role, you will initially work with and be mentored by experienced engineers and will yourself help to mentor designers. Your initial assignments will include performing load calculations, determining system sizing and layouts, calculating equipment sizes, selecting equipment, completing field surveys, and reviewing equipment shop drawings. As you gain project experience, you will take on a greater role in leading electrical project teams, writing specifications, participating in project meetings with clients and other consultants, and supporting construction-phase work.
