Job summary

Hamilton Barnes Associates Limited is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its Mission Critical practice on hyperscale and enterprise data center projects across North America. You will design electrical power systems, produce construction documents, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver resilient critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 4+ years' experience designing electrical systems for mission critical/data center projects.
  • Strong knowledge of medium voltage and low voltage distribution.
  • Experience with UPS, generators, switchgear, transformers, standby power.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70 and applicable electrical codes.
  • EIT certification preferred; PE license desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical power systems for data center projects.
  • Prepare construction documents: single-line diagrams, layouts, equipment schedules.
  • Design medium/low voltage distribution, UPS, generators, standby power.
  • Perform load calculations, short circuit, coordination, arc flash studies.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and tech teams.
  • Attend client meetings and design reviews.
  • Support construction administration: RFIs, submittals, site visits.
  • Assist commissioning and system validation.
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, NFPA 70, and client standards.

This role offers an Electrical Engineer the opportunity to work on high-profile hyperscale and enterprise data center projects, developing innovative electrical solutions alongside a respected engineering team. It provides the platform to grow technically while contributing to the future of mission-critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Design electrical power systems for hyperscale, colocation and enterprise data center projects.
  • Produce electrical construction documents including single-line diagrams, power distribution layouts and equipment schedules.
  • Design medium and low voltage distribution systems, UPS systems, standby generators and mission critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Perform load calculations, short circuit, coordination and arc flash studies.
  • Coordinate designs with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and technology teams.
  • Attend client meetings, design reviews and project coordination sessions.
  • Support construction administration through RFIs, submittal reviews and site visits.
  • Assist with commissioning, system validation and project close-out activities.
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, NFPA and client-specific standards.
  • Support junior engineers and contribute to the continued growth of the Mission Critical team.
Skills/Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 4+ years' experience designing electrical systems for mission critical, data center or large commercial projects.
  • Strong understanding of medium voltage, low voltage and critical power distribution.
  • Experience designing UPS, generators, switchgear, transformers and standby power systems.
  • Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD and SKM or ETAP.
  • Understanding of NEC, NFPA 70 and applicable electrical codes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • PE licence or the ability to obtain one is highly desirable.
