Job description

We're looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to design, optimize, and safeguard the critical power infrastructure of a Data Center Portfolio. You'll own the electrical engineering strategy for the sites, from utility feeds through to the rack, ensuring that power systems are resilient, efficient, and never let customers down. In a facility where uptime is everything, you'll be the person who makes sure the infrastructure is engineered right, operated safely, and ready for whatever comes next.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership role, working alongside operations and maintenance teams, reviewing designs and work, and mentoring technicians and junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the electrical design, capacity planning, and lifecycle strategy for critical power systems, including medium and low voltage distribution, UPS and batteries, switchgear, generators, transfer switches, PDUs, and busway
  • Lead engineering for new builds, expansions, and upgrades, from concept through design review, commissioning, and handover
  • Perform and maintain power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash analysis
  • Maintain single‑line diagrams, as‑built drawings, and arc flash labeling in line with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards
  • Develop and review Methods of Procedure (MOPs), Scopes of Work, and Emergency Operating Procedures for work on live critical systems
  • Lead Level 1-5 commissioning activities, including load bank testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and witness testing of equipment
  • Monitor power quality, load trends, and redundancy status through EPMS/BMS, and use the data to forecast capacity and prevent failures
  • Lead root cause analysis for electrical incidents, alarms, and near misses, and drive corrective and preventive actions
  • Support the maintenance strategy for electrical assets, including predictive techniques such as thermography, battery monitoring, and breaker and relay testing
  • Evaluate and manage vendors, consultants, and contractors, including design review, technical oversight, and quality of workmanship
Resilience & Compliance
  • Develop severe weather and business continuity plans from an electrical standpoint, including hurricane season preparedness, flood mitigation, generator fuel logistics, and extended grid outages
  • Coordinate with the utility (CenterPoint or relevant provider) on service requirements, interconnection, demand response, and outage planning
  • Support generator air permit compliance (TCEQ) and fuel storage requirements alongside the EHS team
  • Drive energy efficiency initiatives, including PUE improvement, power factor, and sustainability reporting
  • Manage engineering input to the capital plan, equipment lifecycle replacement, and spare parts strategy
  • Support customer audits and certifications, including Uptime Institute, SOC 2, and ISO frameworks
  • Report on capacity, risk, reliability metrics, and project status to senior management
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proven experience in electrical engineering within a data center, critical facility, or heavy industrial environment
  • Strong working knowledge of UPS systems, generators, switchgear, ATS/STS, and medium voltage power distribution
  • Solid understanding of NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards (e.g. 1584, 242, 446)
  • Experience with power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower
  • Experience with commissioning, MOP development, and change management in a live environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues to technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Calm, decisive, and professional under pressure
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or EIT with a clear path to licensure in Texas
  • Experience with Tier III/IV facilities and colocation customer environments
  • Familiarity with Uptime Institute standards, ISO 27001, ISO 50001, or SOC 2 frameworks
  • Experience with CMMS, EPMS, and BMS/SCADA platforms
  • Experience with high‑density and liquid‑cooled deployments, and their power implications
  • Background in power generation, utilities, oil and gas, or the military
  • Certifications such as NETA, CEM, or OSHA 30
