Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Electrical Engineer to design, maintain, and optimize the electrical systems that power our mission-critical data center operations. This role ensures high availability, reliability, scalability, and compliance of all electrical infrastructure, from utility feeds and switchgear to UPS systems and power distribution units (PDUs). The ideal candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with a proactive approach to problem-solving in fast-paced, high-demand environments.

Requirements:

Salary Range: $100K to $150 (It could be higher or lower depending on experience)

Work Location: Mid-town New York, NY

Work Type: Onsite (Sorry no remote)

Key Responsibilities

• Design and review electrical infrastructure for new and existing data centers, including power distribution, grounding, lighting, and monitoring systems.
• Develop single-line diagrams, load calculations, and equipment specifications.
• Evaluate new technologies to improve energy efficiency and resiliency.
• Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and vendors to ensure integrated solutions.

Operations & Maintenance

• Oversee the operation and maintenance of electrical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, PDUs, and backup power systems.
• Implement preventative and corrective maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
• Monitor and analyze system performance using Building Management Systems (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools.
• Ensure rapid troubleshooting and resolution of electrical faults or outages.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all electrical systems comply with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, OSHA, and other applicable codes and standards.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and certifications (e.g., Tier levels, Uptime Institute, LEED).
• Develop and enforce safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and emergency response plans.

Project Management

• Lead electrical infrastructure projects including retrofits, upgrades, and capacity expansions.
• Manage vendors, contractors, and consultants to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
• Prepare documentation including test reports, commissioning reports, and as-built drawings.
• Support capital planning and budget management for electrical systems.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
• Certifications such as LEED, PMP, or Uptime Accredited Tier Designer are advantageous.
• Experience
• 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 3 years in mission-critical facilities or data center environments.
• Proven expertise with medium and low voltage distribution systems, UPS systems, diesel generators, and power monitoring systems.
• Experience designing and supporting Tier III/Tier IV data centers strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with load management, redundancy planning, and fault tolerance design.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or other design tools.
• Experience with electrical modeling software (ETAP, SKM, or similar).
• Familiarity with SCADA, BMS, and DCIM platforms.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
