Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Houston seeks an Assistant Electrical Designer to support planning, design and documentation across diverse project types. You will assist with electrical schematics, CAD layouts, lighting and power systems, and preparation of construction drawings.

You will work with project teams, learn company drafting standards, and help produce accurate drawings within budget and schedule while developing CAD skills in 2D and 3D environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field.
• Associate degree with 3+ years related experience.
• 4 years progressive detailing and design experience.
• Strong understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel.
• Ability to utilize 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
• Basic knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
• Ability to work with Project Managers, Engineers and Designers in a team.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing electrical project designs including schematics, grid layouts, power systems, lighting, protection and controls, and site design.
• Set up electrical CAD configuration according to project requirements.
• Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches using CAD software.
• Produce drawing packs within scope, budget, and schedule.
• Incorporate budgets and project criteria into electrical design and layouts.
• Organize and maintain revisions of project drawings and plots.
• Complete and review design drawings.
• Apply design codes and specifications.
