Job summary

Georgia-Pacific LLC is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Paper Finishing Controls team within the Process Control Center of Excellence. This corporate role is home-based in the U.S.

with up to 50% travel to manufacturing facilities and sites nationwide. The engineer will provide hands-on controls troubleshooting, PLC/HMI programming, and system integration support for reel, winder, and roll handling equipment across multiple facilities, partnering with operations and maintenance teams

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Five (5) or more years of hands-on experience supporting industrial control systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience troubleshooting, configuring, and modifying Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI systems.
• Experience troubleshooting integrated machine control systems involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, field devices, and industrial networks.
• Experience implementing and validating control system changes on operating manufacturing equipment with operations and maintenance teams.
• Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems and ability to read basic schematics.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, control documentation, and drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work through complex problems to determine root cause.
• Strong communication skills across operations, maintenance, engineering, OEM, and technical teams.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to support facilities nationwide.
• Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on controls troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for reel, winder, roll handling, and related systems with site teams.
• Read, troubleshoot, modify, and validate PLC/HMI control strategies including sequencing and interlocks.
• Troubleshoot and improve controls integration between reel, winder, and upstream/downstream equipment.
• Support startup, stabilization, and post-startup improvements of new or upgraded finishing systems.
• Collaborate with OEMs and GP resources to identify recurring issues and implement improvements.
• Maintain controls documentation, program backups, descriptions, and troubleshooting guides.
• Develop and share repeatable controls practices and standards across GP facilities.
