Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a designer intern for the Roanoke, VA site. The role is onsite five days a week and involves CAD drafting to create and update 3D inventory parts, assemblies, and 2D AutoCAD Electrical drawings as part of building a foundation for your career.

You will gain experience in creating, revising, and maintaining drawings, dos and don'ts of engineering documentation, and using Autodesk tools alongside Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Completed at least one year toward an associate degree in AAS CAD or related engineering technology.
• Minimum age of 18.
• Graduation date December 2027 or later.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and sketches.
• Support the creation, revision, and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents.
• Obtain information from verbal communication, sketches, field notes and vendor catalogs.
• Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work.
• Proficiency in Autodesk CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, Vault).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
• Read vendor prints and shop drawings and incorporate information into work.
• Demonstrate ethical behavior per AEP policies.
• Assume other duties as assigned.
