Job summary

American Electric Power Co. (AEP) seeks an Electrical Designer Intern for our New Albany, OH location.

The internship focuses on CAD-based creation and updating of 3D inventory parts, assemblies and drawings, and 2D AutoCAD Electrical drawings to build foundational engineering skills. Internship details show onsite work five days a week with responsibilities spanning drawing creation, document maintenance, field information gathering, and CAD tool usage.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least one year toward an associate degree in applied science (AAS) drafting and CAD or in civil, structural, electrical or mechanical engineering technology or design.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering and record drawings, and sketches.
• Support the creation, revision, and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents; including construction, equipment, property documents and records.
• Obtain information required to perform work from verbal communication, sketches, marked drawings, listings, field notes, vendors' catalogs and technical reference manuals and site visits.
• Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work.
• Proficiency in the use of computer aided design software, including Autodesk products (AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, Vault).
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software.
• Read vendors' prints, shop and other drawings and equipment operating instructions, and incorporate that information into the work being performed.
