Job summary

American Electric Power Co. is seeking a Civil/Structural Designer Intern for an onsite, five-day-per-week position in New Albany/Columbus, OH. You will develop and update 3D inventory parts and 2D AutoCAD Electrical drawings, gaining a strong CAD foundation for your career.

You will use AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor and Vault, along with Microsoft Office, to create, revise, and maintain drawings and documents, while adhering to company policies and standards.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least one year toward an AAS in drafting/CAD or engineering tech (civil/structural/electrical/mechanical).
• Must be at least 18 years old at start.
• Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and sketches.
• Maintain facilities and equipment documents including construction and property records.
• Obtain required information from verbal/hand-drawn sources and site visits.
• Perform mathematical calculations for assigned work.
• Proficient use of CAD software; Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, Vault.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Read vendor prints and equipment instructions and apply to work.
• Demonstrate ethical behavior per AEP policies.
