Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a metering technician to perform electrical measurements, installation, testing, calibration, inspection, and repair of metering equipment on customer premises. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and proactive problem solving.

You will work in a field/service capacity, handling meter installations, data collection, and coordinating with teams to ensure reliable billing and energy management.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of basic electrical theory and practice.
• Must pass the EEI CAST Test.
• Able to calculate various electrical loads as they relate to kWh consumption.
• Able to read and understand routine information and wiring diagrams.
• Must be neat, clean, and able to communicate courteously with the public.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, calibrate, inspect, repair and maintain electrical measurement devices and related equipment.
• Requisition, prepare for service, inspect and issue kilowatt-hour meters and related devices.
• Inspect, clean, repair and calibrate meters and devices at the shop or customer sites.
• Periodically inspect meters and equipment for proper operation and maintenance.
• Investigate customer complaints about metering equipment performance and accuracy.
• Replace residential meters on a fixed schedule per regulations; replace billing devices as needed.
• Maintain all billing-related devices and readings on customer premises.
• Install transformer-rated meters and perform operational tests; document results.
• Investigate and document energy theft; implement corrective actions to protect revenue.
• Coordinate with colleagues to maximize safety and efficiency and train others as needed.
