We seek motivated individuals who enjoy working independently and outdoors to join our team.

About the Role

The Meter Reader reports to the Meter Services Supervisor and plays a key role in reading and inspecting gas, electric, and water meters. The role requires extensive walking outdoors, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility daily.

  • Pay Transparency: $20/hr. Employees may earn additional incentives based on productivity.

What You'll Do

  • Read meters daily or as scheduled, typically on customer premises for billing.
  • Complete assigned duties within required timeframes, assign sequence numbers, and adjust routes as needed.
  • Inspect meters and report damages or malfunctions.
  • Evaluate unsafe conditions and clean meter boxes.
  • Use meter reading devices, hand tools, printed materials, and assist in training new readers.

Environmental Conditions

  • Walk and stand for much of the workday, often covering long distances in various weather conditions.
  • Exert physical force when moving objects, up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Customer Communication

  • Refer customer complaints appropriately and provide general meter service information.

About You

Must Haves:

  • No formal education required; must be 18+ years old.
  • No experience necessary; training provided. Valid driver's license required.

Nice to Have:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year outdoor meter reading experience or similar outdoor work.

Your Skills

  • Ability to multitask and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexible routines and route scheduling.
  • Good time management to complete daily reads efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills with management and customers.
  • Professional interaction with unhappy customers.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to walk long distances and adapt to weather conditions.

Role Fit

  • Not suitable if you dislike independent outdoor work, walking long distances, or lack flexibility and time management skills.

Drug/Alcohol Testing

  • Required per non-regulatory and federal DOT regulations depending on the meter type.
