Job summary

Arc is hiring a hands-on mechanical engineer to design and release propulsion and drivetrain systems for marine vessels. You’ll collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration, own thermal and fluid systems, and drive DFMA with manufacturing and supply chain.

The role requires 3+ years of production experience, CAD proficiency, and willingness to work on water and in the shop, with occasional sea trials and physical tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years designing and releasing mechanical systems for production, ideally on vessels or vehicles.
  • Strong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluids, and tolerance stack‑up.
  • Proficient with 3D CAD and PLM workflows; able to own a design through build, test, and iteration.
  • Willing to work hands-on in the shop and on the water; able to pass sea trials.
  • Active role requiring physical activity and standing for most shifts; able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Design marine propulsion and drivetrain systems, including shafting, couplings, mounts, seals, bearings, and steering hardware.
  • Collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration — packaging, weight and LCG, foundation loads, and appendage interfaces
  • Own thermal and fluid systems across the vessel, including cooling loops, pumps, plumbing, bilge, and ventilation
  • Run structural, thermal, and hydrodynamic analysis to size and validate components before they get built
  • Build and execute test plans on the bench, at the dock, and on the water, then turning that data back into design changes
  • Releasing drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and specifications, and driving DFM/DFA with manufacturing and supply chain
  • Partnering with electrical and controls engineers to integrate Arc's powertrain into the vessel
  • Supporting USCG, ABS, and ISO compliance and evaluating suppliers for critical marine hardware
