Job summary

Xcel Energy internship program in Electric Distribution Engineering is designed for current students pursuing engineering degrees. The role includes assisting engineers with underground and overhead distribution projects, arc flash considerations, and material specification tasks.

The internship emphasizes learning industry standards, field equipment usage, and gaining in-depth knowledge of electric distribution systems while operating within a hybrid work structure.

Qualifications

• Current student,Graduate School
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Electric Distribution Standards covers Overhead Distribution, Underground Distribution, Outdoor Lighting, Communication, Underground Network and EV charging standards.
• This position will be working to support engineering staff with various projects in relation to these areas.
• This position involves researching relevant industry standards, understanding electric distribution equipment, and how the equipment is used in the field.
• The intern will come away with in depth knowledge of the electric distribution system as part of their internship in this position.
