Xcel Energy invites applicants for an internship position in the Engineering team in Denver. You will support Electric Area Engineering with tasks that improve electric reliability, power quality, system protection, and plant betterment while gaining hands-on experience and mentorship.

The role emphasizes practical operations exposure and collaboration with engineers, planners, and project managers, offering growth opportunities and guidance through the internship term.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering program in progress.
• Strong interest in electric power systems and utility operations.
• Familiarity with AI and digital productivity tools for data analysis and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with distribution system analysis and feeder performance evaluations.
• Review outage data and reliability metrics (SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI) to identify trends.
• Prepare and support Project Planning & Execution submittals.
• Apply and verify compliance with electric standards and guidelines.
• Analyze power quality measurements (voltage, current, flicker, harmonics).
• Assist Area Engineers with capital project tracking and documentation.
• Communicate & prepare technical summaries, reports, and presentations for engineering staff.
