Job summary

FirstEnergy in Weirton, WV is seeking a Distribution Designer to oversee designed construction, relocation, and new business work for the Distribution function. The role supports customers and internal teams using design standards, regulatory knowledge, and software tools, with on-site duties at the Weirton Service Center.

The candidate will participate in emergency and storm-related activities, travel to various locations, and ensure records meet regulatory and project needs.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in a technical discipline is required or high school with 2–5 years related utility design experience.
• Pass the Edison Electric Institute TECH employment test.
• Strong communication ability to guide decision-making or consensus and diffuse challenging situations.
• Willing to seek guidance to fill gaps and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Able to interpret complex procedures, drawings and regulations and learn software quickly.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to safety and company standards in all tasks.
• Use FirstEnergy design standards to complete overhead and underground designs for residential, commercial, and industrial requests.
• Support project progression via customer contacts, field work, and documentation.
• Assist with billing for line extensions and relocations, including non-routine scenarios.
• Facilitate OMS follow-up, outages, streetlight work, claims, and priority repairs.
• Acquire permits for railroad, DOT, and local rights-of-way and document easements.
• Collaborate with customers to document easements for extensions and relocations.
• Maintain compliant records for reports, metrics, and information systems.
• Travel to FirstEnergy offices and customer sites as required; assist during emergencies.
