Job summary

The City of Grand Haven is seeking Election Inspectors to assist at polling locations and receiving boards under the City Clerk's Office. You will help with closing procedures, review election materials for accuracy, and provide courteous service to voters and election staff.

This intermittent, on-site role requires attention to detail and adherence to Michigan election laws. Training is required, and compensation is $18.00 per hour plus a $50 per election stipend.

Qualifications

• Must be a registered voter in MI or a student age 16+ by Election Day.
• Must obtain and maintain Election Inspector certification through Ottawa County.
• Must complete required training, online or in-person.
• Current or prior Election Inspector certification through Ottawa County required.
• Prior experience in Precinct Chairperson role or City Clerk's Office preferred.
• Previous Election Day experience on a precinct or counting board is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Election Day duties and precinct-closing procedures.
• Assist with completing and reviewing election paperwork for accuracy.
• Seal ballot containers and secure materials per procedures.
• Ensure receiving board duties comply with laws and regulations.
• Conduct quality-control reviews of duties completed.
• Help resolve procedural or operational issues during closing or receiving boards.
• Follow Michigan election laws to tally, document, and account for votes.
• Provide courteous, professional assistance to voters and staff.
• Safeguard ballots, records, equipment, and sensitive materials.
• Attend and complete all required election inspector training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the City Clerk.
