Job summary

Kemira is seeking an experienced Safety and Compliance Specialist for our Spokane, Washington manufacturing facility. This role supports health, safety and environmental programs to meet regulatory and corporate targets, training employees and ensuring safe operations.

You will lead proactive safety initiatives, manage documentation, and coordinate reporting and emergency response. A chemistry-related degree and OSHA/EPA knowledge are required, with strong communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field, and/or completion of S&H certification programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Washington State regs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to train personnel and lead teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and self-motivation.
  • Ability to write and review procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and administer a proactive safety process to foster a positive safety culture in the plant.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance through procedure development, auditing and document management.
  • Complete site reporting and regulatory reporting on time.
  • Advise on safety issues and conduct timely employee training; maintain training records.
  • Ensure Hazard Communication and safety procedures and training are effective.
  • Coordinate incident analysis and follow-up to minimize recurrence; document activities.
  • Maintain document control per ISO/Corporate requirements via SharePoint.
  • Stay current with EHSQ standards; perform gap assessments and implement improvements.
  • Manage the emergency response program and coordinate drills.
  • Lead medical monitoring program and emergency medical needs per guidelines.
  • Coordinate PPE program: selection, training, inspection and medical clearance if needed.
  • Coordinate and support Behavior-Based Safety Program.
  • Collaborate with plant production on process improvements in health, safety, environmental and quality.
