Job summary

Saint-Gobain/CertainTeed in Piedmont, Missouri, seeks an EHS Specialist to support health and safety improvements across the facility. You will train contractors, coordinate MSHA and respirator programs, conduct JSA reviews, and lead daily GEMBA walks to uphold safety standards.

The role requires 4+ years in EHS, training experience, and proficiency with MS Office. A strong emphasis on communication and change leadership helps maintain Our EHS management systems and safe operations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience within the general industry of environmental, health & safety field or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Must have completed 24hr Part 56 New Miner Training.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of Lean Thinking, 5-S, and Six Sigma (including statistical process controls).
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to all levels of the organization.
  • Must be proficient in MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must have the ability to recognize and prioritize various tasks/projects at the same time.
  • Must obtain the ability to build teams and manage change.
  • Must lead by example, maintaining the integrity of the EHS Management Systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform, train, and track contractor and visitor site safety training to ensure compliance with site safety policies
  • Communication with plant Management and Staff-level employees, along with Plant Supervisors for all EHS matters
  • Maintains FRP training, spill containment, and detention points
  • Monitors and tracks daily air monitoring performance sheets to ensure guidelines are met
  • 4ORMS Concern Reporting administrator – track and assign site safety TF concerns to the appropriate department / Supervisor or Manager
  • Silica dust team associate – meet recommendations and controls to comply with Silica MSHA program
  • Create AR’s as the project lead for the EHS Department
  • Conducts MSHA Annual Refresher Training and track completion
  • Conducts 24hr Part 56 New Miner Training
  • Manages annual testing for hearing and respiratory programs
  • Writes, reviews, and assesses current JSA
  • Reviews Permits to work
  • Participates in regulatory compliance audits
  • Responsible for daily GEMBA Walks
  • Onboard New Hires and input them into the EHS systems
  • Responsible for the Respirator program

Job description

The EHS Specialist demonstrates core skills, which include understanding the company safety policies in adherence of the principle values VMVO (Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives). The EHS Specialist is a key resource to other departments within the facility regarding employee Environmental Health and Safety. This person reports directly to the EHS Supervisor and has the primary responsibility of supporting all health and safety improvement efforts at the CertainTeed, Piedmont, Missouri facility. These duties and responsibilities listed below are not intended to be inclusive and may change depending on unforeseen circumstances or as assigned by supervision for the success of the operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:The manufacturing plant is not temperature-controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside the plant area. Manufacturing processes involve crushed rock, granules, and coloring pigments. Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Moving equipment such as haul trucks, front-end loaders, forklifts, skid steer loaders, man lifts, cranes, and industrial sweepers traveling throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas.

The employee is frequently required to walk and climb. The employee is occasionally required to balance or stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee will use Personal Protective Equipment as required in specific work areas.
