Job summary

Mountain Cement Company, a subsidiary of Eagle Materials, seeks an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to help bring the newest cement plant in the United States to life. You will support day-to-day operations at a state-of-the-art facility, focusing on safety, environmental stewardship and compliance.

The role requires a strong background in environmental science, the ability to develop policies, conduct audits, and train staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical science, chemistry, or environmental field.
  • Experience in manufacturing with permitting and compliance in Air, Water, & Waste permits.
  • Experience in industrial environments preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong understanding of environmental science and policy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage environmental health and safety programs.
  • Support management on training, environment, health, and safety issues.
  • Ensure programs are effective and compliant with regulations.
  • Conduct audits and inspections.
  • Provide training on EHS topics.
  • Collaborate with departments to maintain safe, compliant conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Overview: An EHS Specialist is a dual role reporting and providing assistance to the Plant Environmental Manager and Plant Health and Safety Manager. The Environment Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will be responsible for assisting in developing and implementing safety programs that protect workers and the environment from hazardous conditions. To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of environmental science and the ability to develop and implement policies and procedures. In addition, you will also be responsible for conducting audits and inspections, as well as providing training on environmental health and safety topics. Basic qualifications and/or traits that the EHS Specialist must possess include:

  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Timely and sound decision-making skills
  • A strong understanding of environmental science
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • The ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Post secondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Experience in manufacturing
  • Experience in training/facilitation.
  • Familiarity with Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA)
  • Use of Microsoft documents, information, data, presentation software (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)

Responsibilities:The responsibilities of the EHS Specialist include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of environmental health and safety programs.
  • Provide support to management and supervisors on issues dealing with training, environment, health, and safety.
  • Ensuring that these programs are effective and compliant with all relevant regulations.
  • Conducting audits and inspections
  • Providing training on environmental health and safety topics
  • Working with departments to create and support safe and environmentally compliant working conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering preferred, physical science, chemistry, or environmental related field.
  • Familiarity in environmental (in a manufacturing or consulting setting), including permitting and compliance experience in Air, Water, & Waste permits
  • Experience working in industrial environmentpreferred

Physical Requirements: The EHS Specialist position is safety sensitive. The physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Working 8-12 hours shifts.
  • Working in areas of heat, cold, muddy, icy, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Subject to twisting, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing.
  • Lifting 65+ lbs regularly.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
