Job summary

Nevada Cement Company in Fernley, NV seeks an Environmental Health & Safety professional to fill in for Environmental and Safety Managers as needed. The role includes SDS reviews, auditing, and analyzing near-miss trends to drive training from data.

You will assist in developing and managing EH&S programs, support management on training and compliance, and conduct monthly inspections to ensure safe, environmentally compliant operations. Travel within facility as required.

Qualifications

  • Must be proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access and related software.
  • BS degree in engineering or environmental field preferred; OH&S diploma/certificate also required or preferred.
  • Familiarity with MSHA and environmental regulatory requirements is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and managing environmental health and safety programs.
  • Provide support to management on training, environment, health, and safety issues.
  • Ensure programs comply with all relevant regulations and are effective.
  • Conduct audits and inspections; provide training on EH&S topics.
  • Collaborate with departments to maintain safe, environmentally compliant operations.

Specific Job Requirements

Nature and Scope

  • Fill in for the Environmental Manager when needed.
  • Fill in for the Safety Manager when needed.
  • SDS review and auditing.
  • Review Near Misses/Hazard Observations to see trends and develop training from the data.
  • Assist in inspections from MSHA.
  • Conduct and assist in New Hire Training and other safety/environmental task training.
  • Plant inspections and observations of employees working.
  • Monthly safety and environmental inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of environmental health and safety programs.
  • Provide support to management and supervisors on issues dealing with training, environment, health, and safety.
  • Ensuring that these programs are effective and compliant with all relevant regulations.
  • Conducting audits and inspections
  • Providing training on environmental health and safety topics
  • Working with departments to create and support safe and environmentally compliant working conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering preferred, physical science, chemistry, or environmental related field.
  • Post secondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Familiarity with Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA)
  • Familiarity in environmental (in a manufacturing or consulting setting), including permitting and compliance experience in Air, Water, & Waste permits
  • Commitment to the highest standards of safe work habits.
  • Experience in the Cement Industry a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be proficient in Word, Dynamics, Excel, Access, and related software.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to wear required PPE when entering production areas.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based within a manufacturing/mining facility.
  • Occasional exposure to industrial environments, including dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
