Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to lead our EHS programs across the site, ensuring OSHA and EPA compliance and driving continuous improvement in worker safety and environmental stewardship.

The role emphasizes implementing EMS and SIPS, pursuing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, and managing safety operations including ammonia refrigeration processes, training, and incident response. Expect occasional travel and on-call coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the environmental, health and safety field and 5+ years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
• 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.
• Ability to make strategic decisions while in stressful situations including leading emergency response efforts.
• Occasional travel involved to collaborate with others.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the implementation and management of Environmental, Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA and company standards.
• Conduct annual program reviews, maintain EMS and SIPS programs, and address audit findings promptly.
• Lead ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification efforts, manage Process Safety and Risk Management Programs for ammonia refrigeration, and coordinate site security plans with management.
• Ensure healthcare and incident handling to reduce costs, review investigations, and address EHS trends with actionable plans.
• Train production employees and management on OSHA and environmental regulations, SOPs, and emergency response protocols.
