Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an EHS Manager III in Waynesboro, VA to lead safety and environmental initiatives within a complex manufacturing environment. The role emphasizes policy ownership, risk assessment, and cross-functional collaboration to embed EHS values into daily operations.

Ideal candidates will have 5–10 years of EHS experience, knowledge of OSHA/EPA/ISO standards, and demonstrated leadership in matrixed teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
• 5 - 10 years of EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial setting
• 3-5 years of previous experience managing a team
• Proven success in influencing matrixed teams and driving cultural transformation
• Strong knowledge of regulatory standards, ISO 14001/ 45001/ 9001, and behavior-based safety systems
• Proficient in EHS digital platforms, data analytics, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, tailored to varied audiences

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures aligned with OSHA, EPA, and ISO standards (14001/ 45001/ 9001)
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses (JHA, HAZOP), and ergonomic evaluations
• Ensure compliance across multiple reporting lines and operational units within a matrixed structure
• Manage environmental reporting, waste characterization, and regulatory submissions
• Lead and participate in EHS audits and risk assessments
• Partner with JCI Legal on regulatory and compliance topics
• Data management with EHS information system
