Job summary

Republic Services in the United States seeks a BU Safety Manager to support multiple BUs within an Area, developing and implementing loss prevention programs, safety objectives, policies, procedures and training.

The role provides technical expertise to BU leadership, ensures OSHA and DOT compliance, monitors program implementation, investigates incidents and supports return-to-duty programs, with a focus on proactive safety and employee well-being.

Qualifications

• Effective interpersonal communication skills across various levels of the organization, external customers, and agencies.
• Ability to write reports and correspondence with minimal direction.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
• Excellent organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, maintaining attention to detail, while meeting deadlines.
• Strong customer service orientation skills.
• Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other applicable health and safety standards.
• A professional safety certification through a nationally recognized safety organization, such as the National Safety Council or a college degree in Safety Management.
• Successful completion of 40-hour OSHA compliance course.

Responsibilities

• Promote and implement safety training programs.
• Ensure loss prevention programs comply with OSHA & DOT.
• Assess loss control activities and train staff.
• Monitor safety program implementation and redirect underperformance.
• Participate in investigations of accidents.
• Support safety meetings and return-to-duty programs.
• Assist HR and management to minimize time away due to injuries.
• Assist in inspections and audits.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
