Qualifications

  • Progressive EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Experience leading EHS teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental compliance and occupational safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an EHS strategy aligned with priorities and operational needs.
  • Lead and develop EHS professionals with clear roles and development plans.
  • Establish consistent policies, procedures, and reporting across locations.
  • Advise leadership on compliance obligations and operational risks.
  • Partner with operations and engineering to integrate EHS into facility improvements and capital projects.
  • Oversee compliance with environmental and occupational safety requirements.
  • Manage environmental permitting, reporting, and related compliance activities.
  • Direct risk assessments and process safety activities appropriate to each operation.
  • Ensure programs address workplace hazards, chemical safety, and exposure.
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure corrective actions address root causes.
  • Oversee inspections and audits, track findings, and drive resolution.
  • Develop emergency preparedness programs and coordinate with external partners.
  • Strengthen employee participation through training and safety initiatives.
  • Monitor EHS performance and allocate resources for improvement.
  • Manage departmental budgets and external service providers.
  • Serve as primary contact for regulatory agencies and stakeholders.

Job description

An established industrial organization is seeking an EHS Director to strengthen safety performance, support environmental compliance, and lead continuous improvement across its operations.

The EHS Director will provide leadership and oversight for environmental, health, and safety programs across multiple locations. This individual will develop team capabilities, establish consistent practices, and partner with business leaders to address operational risks and build a strong safety culture.

The position requires a hands‑on leader who can translate strategic priorities into practical programs, support capital projects, and engage employees at all levels.

Position Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute an EHS strategy aligned with business priorities and operational needs.
  • Lead and develop EHS professionals, establishing clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and development plans.
  • Establish consistent policies, procedures, and reporting practices across locations.
  • Advise leadership on compliance obligations, operational risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with operations and engineering to incorporate EHS requirements into facility improvements, equipment changes, and capital projects.
  • Oversee compliance with applicable environmental and occupational safety requirements.
  • Manage environmental permitting, reporting, and related compliance activities.
  • Direct risk assessments and process safety activities appropriate to each operation.
  • Ensure effective programs are in place to address workplace hazards, chemical safety, and employee exposure.
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure corrective actions address underlying causes.
  • Oversee inspections and audits, track findings, and drive timely resolution.
  • Develop emergency preparedness programs and coordinate with appropriate external partners.
  • Strengthen employee participation through training, communication, and safety initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational safety, engineering, or a related field.
  • Significant progressive EHS experience in manufacturing or another industrial environment.
  • Experience leading EHS teams and supporting multiple operating locations.
  • Strong understanding of environmental compliance and occupational safety requirements.
  • Experience developing and improving EHS programs and management systems.
  • Working knowledge of process safety, hazard assessment, and risk mitigation.
  • Experience supporting capital projects or changes to facilities, equipment, and production processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies and manage compliance matters.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with practical, on‑site execution.
Preferred Experience
  • Relevant professional EHS certification.
  • Experience supporting complex manufacturing processes and environmental permitting.
  • Success improving safety performance and employee engagement.
  • Experience guiding teams through organizational growth or operational change.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with senior leadership.
