Job summary

The Environmental Health team of Liberty County within the Coastal Health District of the Georgia Department of Public Health is hiring for an Environmental Health Specialist I. You will conduct inspections and enforce environmental health regulations to protect public health.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences with 27 semester hours in lab sciences. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and is based in Liberty County with a standard M-F schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences required.
• Degree included 27 semester hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics).

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections, interviews and technical reviews and recommends enforcement actions as needed.
• Investigates complaints and provides environmental health education and technical assistance to the public, regulated community and officials.
• Interprets regulatory and technical issues to document compliance with state, federal and local EH laws.
• Implements county-wide programs for compliance, monitoring, enforcement and corrective action.
• Serves as compliance officer and liaison between Public Health and facilities, municipalities, institutions, organizations, and agencies.
• Prepares sampling plan and collects samples per established procedures.
• Plans and conducts audits and inspections of business facilities and residences.
• Reviews permit applications; drafts and issues permits per rules and procedures.
• Reviews permit requirements and regulations to ensure compliance with EH laws.
• Assists with Emergency Preparedness and response.
• Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Work as a member of an Environmental Health team to provide Environmental Health assessment and evaluation in Liberty County as a part of the Liberty County Public Health Department. Evaluate programs and facilities for compliance with environmental laws, rules, and regulations. Recommends monitoring and enforcement/corrective actions.

6. Prepares sampling plan and collects samples in accordance with established procedures
7. Plans and conducts audits and inspections of business facilities and personal residences
8. Reviews permit applications; drafts, modifies and issues permits in accordance with the rules, regulations and established procedures
9. Reviews permit requirements and regulations in order to ensure compliance with state and federal environmental laws.
10. Assists with Emergency Preparedness and response
11. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision

EHS 1-Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).- $42,819
