Job summary

Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist to perform inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions in Camden County as part of the Coastal Health District. The role focuses on evaluating programs and facilities for compliance with environmental laws and implementing corrective actions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences.
• Bachelor's degree with 27 lab hours plus one year of experience at EHS 1 or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree with 27 lab hours plus one year at EHS 2/PH Envir Compl Specialist 2 (RCP121) or equivalent and Georgia Environmental Health Training completion.
• Bachelor's degree with 27 lab hours plus one year at PH Envir Compl Specialist 3 (RCP122) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections, interviews and technical reviews; recommends enforcement actions.
• Investigates complaints and provides environmental health education and technical assistance.
• Interprets regulatory issues and data to document compliance with state, federal and local laws.
• Implements county-wide programs for compliance, monitoring and enforcement.
• Serves as liaison between Public Health and facilities, municipalities and agencies.
• Prepares sampling plan and collects samples per procedures.
• Plans and conducts audits and inspections of businesses and residences.
• Reviews permit applications and drafts/modifies/issues permits.
• Reviews permit requirements to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Assists with Emergency Preparedness and response.
• Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Completes required training within specified time frame.

Education

Bachelor's degree with 27 lab hours

Bachelor's degree + 1 year EHS 1 level exp

Bachelor's degree + 1 year EHS 2/Equivalent experience

Work as a member of an Environmental Health team to provide Environmental Health assessment and evaluation in Camden County as a part of the Camden County Public Health Department. Evaluate programs and facilities for compliance with environmental laws, rules, and regulations. Recommends monitoring and enforcement/corrective actions.

7. Plans and conducts audits and inspections of business facilities and personal residences.
8. Reviews permit applications; drafts, modifies and issues permits in accordance with the rules, regulations and established procedures.
9. Reviews permit requirements and regulations in order to ensure compliance with state and federal environmental laws.
10. Assists with Emergency Preparedness and response.
11. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
12. Completes required training within specified time frame.

Qualifications

• EHS 1: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).
• EHS 2: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) AND one year of experience at the lower level EHS 1 or position equivalent.
• EHS 3: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) AND One year of experience at the lower level PH Envir Compl Specialist 2 (RCP121) or position equivalent AND completion of the Georgia Environmental Health Training class.
• EHS 4: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) and one (1) year of experience at the lower level PH Envir Compl Specialist 3 (RCP122) or position equivalent.
