Job summary

MIT's EECS Department seeks a Technical Instructor to support hands-on learning in its Departmental Teaching Lab (DTL). The role involves mentoring students, guiding project work with prototyping equipment and electronics tools, and ensuring safe operation of lab gear.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical field and at least five years of hands-on experience in an educational, laboratory, or industrial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for mentoring and teaching undergraduate students in one-on-one and small-group settings.
  • Solid technical expertise in electronics design and fabrication, CAD/ECAD, embedded systems, machining, mechanical assemblies, rapid prototyping, and makerspace or facility operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support hands-on learning in the EECS Departmental Teaching Lab (DTL).
  • Guide students with minimal supervision in designing and building course-related projects using rapid prototyping equipment and electronics-focused tools.
  • Train students on the safe operation of lab equipment and foster a culture of safety and innovation.
  • Support an undergraduate teaching laboratory that serves hundreds of students each semester.
  • Work in the EECS DTL during Sunday and weekday evening hours (Monday–Thursday), providing technical expertise and instructional support.
