Job summary

MIT's EECS Department seeks a Technical Instructor to support hands-on learning in its Departmental Teaching Lab (DTL). The role involves mentoring students, guiding project work with prototyping equipment and electronics tools, and ensuring safe operation of lab gear.

The position is full-time and on campus, with required Sunday and weekday evening availability (Mon–Thu). Ideal candidates have a technical Associate degree and 5+ years of hands-on experience in educational, lab, or industrial

Qualifications

Associate degree in a technical field and at least five years of hands-on experience in an educational, laboratory, or industrial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated enthusiasm for mentoring and teaching undergraduate students in one-on-one and small-group settings.
Solid technical expertise in electronics design and fabrication, CAD/ECAD, embedded systems, machining, mechanical assemblies, rapid prototyping, and makerspace or facility operations.

Responsibilities

Support hands-on learning in the EECS Departmental Teaching Lab (DTL).
Guide students with minimal supervision in designing and building course-related projects using rapid prototyping equipment and electronics-focused tools.
Train students on the safe operation of lab equipment and foster a culture of safety and innovation.
Support an undergraduate teaching laboratory that serves hundreds of students each semester.
Work in the EECS DTL during Sunday and weekday evening hours (Monday–Thursday), providing technical expertise and instructional support.
