Job summary

Avondale Elementary School District is seeking a Paraprofessional I or II to support students and staff in general and exceptional education settings. Key duties include assisting with lesson planning, guiding small groups, and helping maintain a positive classroom environment.

The role also covers library-related tasks when assigned, requires a high school diploma or higher, 60 college credits or an associate degree, and valid fingerprint clearance. The position is 29.5 hours per week.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Successful completion para educator assessment, 60 college credits (100 level or higher), or an Associate's degree
• Valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card (preferred)
• General clerical experience (preferred)
• Must be able to push, pull, or lift weights of at least 30 pounds
• Must be proficient in the use of the English language, both verbal and written
• First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained by the district)
• Must be able to pass a background check upon employment
• Must possess a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance card

Responsibilities

• Assists in executing the daily and long range lesson planning
• Conducts learning exercises with individual children or small groups of children, in program related activities
• Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with each other
• Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children
• Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary
• Assists with supervision of children in the classroom, playground, and/or cafeteria
• Assists the teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas
• Assists in the preparation and the collection of educational materials such as bulletin boards, charts, audio-visuals, seatwork, dittos, flash cards, etc.
• Attends in-service activities designed to help with instruction
• Prepares and administers reading, math and language assessment testing to students as necessary
• Tutors students as may be necessary
• Maintains files and records as directed
• Performs other related duties as assigned
