Job summary

Avondale Elementary School District in Goodyear, AZ seeks a Paraprofessional III to support teachers in mild to severe self-contained special education classrooms, assisting with individualized programs, planning, and materials.

Candidates must have a high school diploma, be able to pass fingerprint and background checks, and meet credential requirements; preferred Spanish or ASL; CPR/First Aid training may be provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 60 college credits (100 level or higher) or an Associate's degree.
• Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance card required.
• General clerical experience preferred.
• Experience with special needs children preferred.
• Able to lift at least 30 pounds.
• Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
• Spanish and ASL knowledge preferred.
• CPR/First Aid certification (district can provide).
• Must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Assists in formulating individualized student programs.
• Assists in classroom planning and preparation.
• Completes paperwork for individualized curriculum.
• Participates in school functions and activities.
• Helps students develop social and work skills.
• Implements IEP objectives with students.
• May supervise cafeteria and playground.
• May accompany teachers on home visits.
• Assists with medical needs and personal hygiene as needed.
• Transports students between wheelchair, chair, etc.
• Supports behavior modification and classroom discipline.
• Identifies problems and refers to appropriate agencies.
• Attends in-service instruction and maintains materials.
