Job summary

University of Nebraska - Lincoln is seeking an Educational Specialist to support high school students in the TRIO Upward Bound program in the Lincoln Metro area. You will craft individualized academic plans and provide advising to help students succeed and prepare for postsecondary education.

The role includes developing college prep activities, assisting with the Upward Bound summer program, and guiding students through postsecondary pathways, all within a collaborative, student-centered

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or related field.
  • Experience providing educational learning activities and college prep planning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement an educational plan addressing each participant’s academic and leadership needs.
  • Provide academic advising and instructional support to retain participants in the program.
  • Develop and implement college preparatory activities and programs.
  • Assist in the Upward Bound summer program at UNL.

Description of Work | The Education Specialist works in the High Schools within the Lincoln Metro area to support students within the TRIO Upward Bound program. As an Education Specialist, you will: Formulate and implement an educational plan that addresses each participant’s individualized academic, educational, and leadership needs and interests Provide academic advising and instructional support that enables participants to be retained with the program Develop and implement college preparatory activities and programs Actively assist in the development and implementation of the Upward Bound summer program at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Assist program participants with Post Secondary Pathway planning

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, community services, human development, or related field. Experience providing educational learning activities—improve academic performance, organizes educational planning, and preparation for enrollment in post-secondary education. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to drive a 12-passenger van Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirement as well as a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree Fluent in a second language other than English. Demonstrate ability to communicate with high school aged youth Experience in working with school staff, and parents/ guardians. Experience working with TRIO programs.
