Job summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is hiring an Educational Sign Language Interpreter to support the CPS Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing program in a school-based setting. You will interpret in classrooms, translate teacher instruction, and facilitate communication between deaf students and staff.

The role requires an associate degree (or 60 college hours) and ISBE interpreter approval, plus at least 1 year of interpreting experience.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 hours of college credit required.
• ISBE Sign Language Interpreter Approval required.
• Minimum 1 year of interpreting experience or practicum experience.

Responsibilities

• Accompany Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing to classes and provide sign language interpretation.
• Assist Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing students with daily activities and convey spoken messages via sign language.
• Interpret student responses to instructors and others; facilitate communication.
• Consult with teachers on student concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.
